QUALIFICATIONS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Member in good standing of a provincial Bar in Canada, preferably in Alberta
  • Have a successful track record of at least 3 years of corporate legal experience, gained in-house or with a well-regarded law firm
  • Experience with ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program) considered an asset
    Salary ranges are based on experience, reflecting the unique skillset each individual brings to the role.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The successful candidate will be responsible for three primary functions: reducing risk and ensuring compliance with privacy, employment, and other relevant laws and regulations on a company-wide level, the preparation and amendment of contracts for our clients and vendors, and providing strategic legal advice to support the growth of our company.
This is an in-person role based out of our Sherwood Park, Alberta office.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Managing third-party contracts, including reviewing third-party contract terms, identifying any concerns (e.g. financial, operational, practical), drafting and negotiating amendments, ensuring the company and all team members are compliant with the contract requirements, and managing renewals, including negotiating new terms.
  • Drafting, reviewing, filling out, and managing issuance and renewal of corporate client contracts, ensuring internal compliance with their terms (e.g. accounting practices, software development, customer support), as well as reviewing all client-proposed amendments and taking part in client meetings to explain when proposed terms are rejected or modified
  • You will be the acting company Privacy Officer and fulfill all associated duties, including reviewing our privacy policy to ensure adherence with regulatory requirements and investigating and resolving any privacy complaints.
  • Monitoring evolving legislation, court/regulatory decisions, and industry best practices to ensure that the organization adequately manages regulatory compliance
  • Development of new and monitoring existing corporate compliance practices and controls
  • Developing and continuously improving upon training materials used to educate all team members about regulatory obligations (e.g. privacy legislation), legal obligations (e.g. internal and third-party contract terms), operational obligations (e.g. SOC compliance) and risk management controls
  • Providing legal advice balanced with risk management to support strategic decisions and mange the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide array of legal documents and agreements, ensuring they meet the company’s needs and legal standards.
  • Internal ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program) plan administrator
