Job Title:
Lead Application Development Engineer (m/w/d) Flexible PU Slabstock Foam
Summary:
The position is focused on the PU Slabstock Foam, segment of Performance Additives business. The Lead Application Development Engineer (m/f/d) possesses the technical expertise required to support growth in PU Slabstock Form and is responsible for the technical support of customers. They must understand the industry trends and formulation technology needs for customers in these industries and propose the most appropriate technical solutions. A person in this role will also be recognized as a technical expert and will be a learning & support resource globally.
The Lead Application Development Engineer (m/f/d) in this role will provide technical support for various countries across Europe with a focus on Eastern Europe.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain regular contacts with flexible foam PU customers in Europe with focus on Eastern Europe
  • Understand day-to-day needs and suggest best use of additives with special focus on continuous production of flexible polyurethane foam
  • Engage with customers on technical inquiries and troubleshooting
  • Support sales by introducing existing and new products to customers to drive business growth in PU and follow-up internal/external qualification work. Joint brainstorming to potential new distributor in Poland for Slab.
  • Execute and contribute to laboratory work required to identify and demonstrate additive solutions to customer needs; planning and execution of laboratory projects, from translation of customer needs as well as lab formulation work supporting NPI’s
  • Support R&D team to maintain new products sale’s introduction pipeline.
  • Support Sales team to potential claim resolution
  • Follow up on samples, customer trials and quality issues
  • Work closely together with Marketing, Commercial functions and with Technology to identify new business opportunities to drive new growth for Momentive’s PU Slab business.
  • Provide feedback and strategic input into Marketing and R&D for new or uncovered needs and market trends as well as future product developments.
  • Suggest modifications to existing product portfolio on customer input and market analysis.
  • Gather market competitive intelligence including new technologies, market trends, IP opportunities
  • Propose new project and ideas in line sustainability trends in PU Slab
  • Effectively own and manage multiple projects, ensuring clear alignment of goals and deliverables with business and market needs
  • Provide or create documentation support such as technical data sheets, Material safety data sheet and other technical guidelines and assist Marketing and R&D in creating technical presentations and seminars featuring the benefit of Momentive Additives in specific applications.
  • Maintain technical data info to support business projects and support NPI developments and process (e.g. datasheet development, specifications).
  • Contribute producing supportive data demonstrating additives performance for the launch of new products.
  • Deliver regular technical training on product benefit to sales & distributors. Present at technical conference or seminars when relevant.
  • Ensure high safety standards are applied in all laboratory activities and comply to local EHS regulations and practices.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • University degree (MSc.) in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in the flexible foam/slabstock industry in a product development and/or technical service role
  • Expert understanding of the use and application of common raw materials used in the industry
  • Systematic and meticulous working method
  • Ability to be effective with minimum level of supervision and positively interact with R&D and Sales team
  • Proven ability to prioritize and concurrently manage multiple projects (project management) as well as to work in an international environment of cross-functional teams
  • Experienced working in a lab to carry out selected projects and issue technical reports
  • Strong skills in customer relationship management, ability to build sustainable business relationships
  • Self-motivated individual with high level of creativity and technical curiosity
  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Ability for effective teamwork and strong team player
  • Availability to travel >60% time mainly continental and Eastern Europe
  • Fluent in English, good German skills
  • Good knowledge of M365 applications, especially very familiar with Excel and PowerPoint
