QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or Diploma in Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field, or Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Finance, Accounting, Business, etc.) or equivalent accounting experience, in conjunction with analytics experience. CFA, CIMA or CA qualified is essential.

Responsibilities:

ROLE PURPOSE

The purpose of the Lead BI Analyst role is to assist and guide the Digital Commerce Data Analytics team with the creation and execution of complex data analytics, leveraging Shoprite’s rich customer and transactional retail data assets to enable strategic insights and decision-making. The role oversees a team of data analysts, providing technical expertise in solving a variety of analytic use cases while working collaboratively in a cross-functional, agile team to guide, direct and shape the data analytics capability. The Lead BI Analyst plays an integral role in building the analytics and data service offerings within the specific team’s domain to enable business to unlock data as a competitive advantage.
In addition, as a Lead Analyst within the digital commerce team, one would also lead the financial planning and analysis capability and team therein, providing insights on business performance and recommending solutions that enable stakeholders to make informed decisions in executing the Digital Commerce strategy. This role supports the Senior Digital Commerce Finance Manager in developing and refining the Digital Commerce finance strategy and financial projections through effective management and delivery of insightful financial analysis, annual budgeting, forecasting, long‐range planning support, reporting and expense management activities. Furthermore, this role builds and manages the financial planning and analysis capability development and team effectiveness in the execution of business unit strategy, whilst interfacing with stakeholders and managing relationships on financial planning and analyses deliverables.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Lead the Analyst team when working with business stakeholders to understand and correctly frame analysis requirements, hypotheses and questions and propose fit-for-purpose and scalable data led solutions.
  • Lead the Analyst team when working with business, technology and development teams and guide and direct the collection of the right data and application of the right analytical techniques to produce the right business insights.
  • Support Analysts when writing complex and intricate business requirements/modifications to transform data into common and graphical formats and reports.
  • Lead the Analyst team in the design, code, debug, test, document and support applications consistent with established business requirements and specifications and lead post-implementation reviews.
  • Lead the Analyst team to build comprehensive and compelling dashboards and reports and present analytical findings, using data visualisation techniques to tell insightful stories that enable business to make viable decisions, while tying performance and ROI to enterprise goals.
  • Support business managers to fully integrate and embed data to unlock strategic insights.
  • Contribute to and support the review of analytical solutions.
  • Identify and manage data challenges, proactively mitigate risks and deploy appropriate solutions.
  • Lead in defining data quality standards and performance monitoring of data structures and models.
  • Guide the development of documentation, user guides or training material, ensuring the same language and definitions are applied.
  • Plan and prioritise data projects that span across the full range of data analytics, weighing business and technical trade-offs as required.
  • Support the team with complex problems or enhancements of dashboards, presentations or reports, requiring expertise and creativity.
  • Support the professional growth and development of data analysts and new team members through active coaching and mentoring.
  • Collaborate across teams and functions to fully leverage data and shift mindsets from facts and findings to transformative insights that drive sound business decisions.
  • Act as a domain expert, sharing updated knowledge and best practices with teams and cross-functional partners to ensure continual optimisation of analytical processes and designs
  • Work closely with the BI Capability Lead, Lead Data Analysts and broader data and agile team to define the roadmap and long-term strategy for the BI and data function.
