QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in bioethics plus at least three (3) years of experience in a complex regulatory health care environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Strong conceptual understanding of the areas of ethics and diversity.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement and facilitate training and education sessions.
  • Knowledge of adult education learning principals, learning styles, and facilitation methods.
  • Outstanding personal relationship skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent moral reasoning skills.
  • Ability to conduct literature searches and reviews.
  • Ability to work with senior staff on sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Ability to coordinate and evaluate processes and procedures.
  • Strong proficiency with and ability to develop systems using a variety of computer software including internet-based applications and MS Office at an intermediate to advanced level.

Responsibilities:

Working collaboratively as a member of the Ethics Services Team, this role is responsible for organizing formal training opportunities in ethics in a context of diversity and inequality and supporting the community of trainees within and beyond Fraser Health. This position leads the Fraser Health annual “Making Ethics Real” bioethics training program. This includes developing course materials, recruiting external instructors, securing continuing professional development (CPD) accreditation, reviewing applications, selecting participants, preparing and disseminating study materials, coordinating and facilitating videoconferences and workshops, evaluating participants’ work.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the regional ethics fellowship program including, but not limited to, advertising and recruitment of fellows, curriculum development, content delivery and relationship between fellow and supervisor(s).
  • Leads implementation of Fraser Health annual “Making Ethics Real” bioethics training program. This includes developing course materials, recruiting external instructors, securing continuing professional development (CPD) accreditation, reviewing applications, selecting participants, preparing and disseminating study materials, coordinating and facilitating videoconferences and workshops, evaluating participants’ work.
  • Coordinates evaluation of the Fellowship Program, developing evaluation strategies, analyzing data to strengthen program delivery and reporting on evaluation. Works with department leadership to improve the Fellowship Program year to year and shares with the Canadian Bioethics Fellowship Community of Practice to inform national standards for Fellowship programs.
  • Supports graduates of the Fellowship Program to find employment in appropriate bioethics field.
  • Supports the continuing ethics development of graduates of the annual bioethics training program to sustain and enhance knowledge and skills by hosting quarterly training workshops, providing ongoing self-assessment of skill and knowledge needs, and connecting graduates to other learning opportunities.
  • Oversees an Ethics Champions program for select graduates who would be responsible for advocating for the use of ethics tools and resources and participating in ethics activities in the organization, by recruiting champions, working with them to understand their responsibilities, working with their leaders to creates space for Champions to incorporate these duties into their professional responsibilities, supporting Champions with their duties, and creating opportunities for ongoing engagement.
  • Coordinates and delivers education workshops and events in various areas within the department on an as needed basis.
  • Participates in department activities related to ethics as assigned/appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
