DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Foreman the job of the Lead Hand is to assist the Foreman with responsibilities, overseeing the ditch and helping pipelayers with tasks related to the work in the trench in a safe and efficient manner.

Lead Hand Responsibilities:

  • Helping pipelayers keep pipe on grade by reading grade sheets and taking shots.
  • Setting up batter boards.
  • Assist with leading the crews.
  • Assist with cutting and beveling pipe.
  • Rigging for pipe and man hole lifts.
  • Doing the prep work ahead of the crew, track line.
  • Keeping track of tools.
  • Keeping the crews moving forward with the work.
  • Relating the foreman’s directions to the crew.
  • Involved in daily production requirements.
  • Involved in daily tool box and safety meetings.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

Lead Hand Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Lead Hand in Water and Sewer.
  • Experience Shooting grades with a Rod and Level and or Batterboards.
