QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc in Computer Science or equivalent or demonstrated experience in an infrastructure role or Azure-related position.
EXPERIENCE
- Significant experience of implementing innovative solutions that are customer and future focused, particularly using Azure Cloud technologies
- Strong background in developing and deploying high-level infrastructure solutions, with a specific emphasis on Azure DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, and Ansible
- Experience of developing and migrating to infrastructure as code, and automation of services
- Proven experience delivering in a high performance multi-disciplinary infrastructure team
- Understanding of project management lifecycle from conception through implementation
- In-depth technical knowledge of Operating Systems/Applications infrastructure technologies
- Demonstrated proficiency with relevant programming / scripting and source code management
- Demonstrated proficiency with command line and interactive shells
- Proficient in using Azure DevOps for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices, enhancing team productivity and deployment efficiency
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing scalable solutions in Azure
- Experience with F5 BigIP or distributed cloud (XC)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Demonstrated proficiency in public Azure/Office 365 and private cloud platforms.
- Experience with Hyper-V or Azure Stack HCI
- Container Technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Windows Server and Red Hat Operating Systems
- Experience managing Dell EMC Isilon or similar SANs
- Orchestration / Automation Experience (e.g. Ansible, Azure DevOps and Terraform)

EXPERIENCE
- Understanding of configuration management tools and techniques as part of application and infrastructure
- Development life cycles. Experience of Ansible or Azure DevOps is highly desirable, but training and development will be provided. Familiarity with DevOps processes and practices and automation
- Experience managing costs within a cloud environment and monitoring for optimisations
- Knowledge and experience of Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and Software as a service (SaaS) principal
- Integration of cloud services with on-premises infrastructure
- Proven experience of developing technical strategies and policies in line with business requirements
- Previous experience within a Higher Education Institution

- Understanding of Information Security best practices
- Proven experience of managing support contracts, ensuring vendors are compliant with their SLAs

As part of an innovative 3rd line team responsible for the delivery of a modern agile hybrid cloud infrastructure; the Lead Infrastructure Engineer will have operational day to day responsibility of the various technologies and platforms, ensuring their optimum performance, reliability, and security. You will be leading and supporting the delivery of game changing projects to ensure we deliver excellence to our students and staff. This is a high performance role, but also rewarding and engaging.
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer will work across the department and wider university, but especially liaising with service delivery, to address problem management and help deliver a culture of continuous service improvement.
Our infrastructure is future focused, Azure Stack HCI, F5, Infoblox, Dell EMC Isilon, Rubrik, Office 365, Windows, and Red Hat Server, Ansible, Kubernetes, terraform, Azure and the Lead Engineer will work with the team to continually develop and exploit its potential for the University.
The ideal candidate for this position would be a cloud engineer or someone with robust infrastructure skills looking to transition into a cloud lead engineer role. The candidate should be skilled in automating solutions using languages like PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform. Proficiency in Terraform or Ansible is crucial for this role.
