About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a great opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer – Auxiliary Systems to join our Hunter Class Frigate Line of Business.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/ or hybrid working. We are also able to offer part-time flexibility for this role.
You will be responsible for leading the Mechanical Engineering Team in the design and development of Mechanical Auxiliary and Fluid Systems and equipment in accordance with the contractual and Company requirements in order to achieve the required business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of engineers to deliver system designs for owned systems, leading integration activities from functional design through to validation of as-built product
  • Engage with a wide range of stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure all aspects of owned equipment and systems are considered and appropriately engineered (i.e. shock, noise, vibration)
  • Lead a team of engineers to resolve production and supplier queries to enable shipbuilding operations and our supply chain.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and complete the verification activities required to “sell off” the engineering design
  • In consultation with Project Engineering Manager, ensure Design Authorisations are established and maintained for the project
  • Undertake planning and resourcing to ensure the technical basis for project planning is established and that the necessary project team is assigned to meet the agreed engineering delivery requirements

About YOU

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree and experience satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia
  • Chartered Professional Engineer status or commitment to obtain within 12 months of starting in this position
  • Mechanical Engineering experience with structural and fabrication products
  • Ideally experience in a maritime/ marine environment
  • Exposure to piping and or fluid systems design and integration
  • Strong Stakeholder engagement experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • NV1 clearance or eligibility required
