Description:

Clinical Duties and Patient Care Undertake nurse-led outpatient colposcopy as an independent and autonomous practitioner working in conjunction with the Lead Colposcopist, other Nurse Colposcopist(s) and consultant team for the service and within NHS Cervical Screening Programme (CSP) guidelines and protocols. Undertake nurse-led outpatient hysteroscopy clinics as an independent and autonomous practitioner working in conjunction with other Nurse Hysteroscopists and consultant team within Trust guidelines and protocols. Manage patient case load with own professional competence, request patient investigations, analyse results and prescribe patient care and monitor outcomes, monitor treatment compliance, and advise on modifications to treatment within agrees guidelines. To provide the highest standard of safe, effective, equitable and compassionate care through the effective use of evidence-based practice in line with agreed local and national colposcopy and hysteroscopy standards and the NMC Code.
Have an in-depth knowledge and awareness of womens health issues. Provide a continuously improving service in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives and the NHS performance network. Act as the patients advocate in all matters relating to care, treatment and welfare acknowledging and incorporating cultural preferences, health beliefs and behaviours. Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Accountable for ensuring cytology and pathologies of the nurse led clinics are reviewed, documented, and discussed with the patient. Escalate abnormal pathologies to the Lead Colposcopist. Facilitate an environment where health promotion and informed patient choice is encouraged and developed to maximum potential within the available resources. Ensure accurate clinical records are kept in line with current NMC guidelines on records and recordkeeping and Trust Policies.
Respond to enquiries from relatives, carers, deals with concerns, formal complaints, including PALS concerns, and actively problem solves to improve patient experience. Constantly promote the importance of the patient experience within the team, and actively seek the views of patients and carers in the process of evaluating and developing care delivery in the department. Ensure safe prescribing and administration of drugs in accordance with current NMC guidelines and Trust Policies. To lead and be involved in research and audit projects undertaken by the Gynaecology service.
Communication and Relationship Skills Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the multi-disciplinary team, allied groups within the acute Trust and Community Health, public and voluntary sectors. Represent and promote the Women’s Service Unit, Women & Children’s Division and Trust internally and externally as required. Provide and disseminate professional and clinical knowledge to multi-disciplinary team. To communicate highly sensitive and complex information to women and their families clearly explaining the benefits and risks of different care approaches and the alternatives available recognising barriers to acceptance.
To ensure that essential information on clients condition and decisions taken regarding care are recorded and communicated appropriately according to Trust policy and Nursing and Midwifery Council Guidelines. Demonstrate courtesy and diplomacy in dealing with professional colleagues and members of the public. Professional To always act in a safe and professional manner in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Midwives Rules and Code [2018]. Complete and maintain the required specialist training and related advanced clinical, technical, and interpersonal skills and competence required as an autonomous practitioner.
Ensure that all clinical care personally provided is of a high standard and reflects current evidence. To provide professional and clinical nursing leadership, acting as a role model for professional practice. To maintain eligibility to practice via professional development and maintenance of professional portfolio to ensure compliance with revalidation. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, providing specialist advice and actively meet the needs of a group of patients in accordance with local, National protocols and BSCCP National guidelines.
A holistic approach to caring should be planned that will include the appropriate level of physiological; pathological; spiritual, socioeconomical and cultural aspects which influence the care of clients within your specific speciality. Independently select, perform, and interpret diagnostic laboratory tests as required within the scope of practice. Develop tools to improve the quality of the service. Monitor the quality of nursing care and action audit information to achieve agreed standards and take the lead on customer care initiatives.
This will include the development and utilisation of local action plans. Ensure that documentation is maintained to the Trust standard (including electronic records) and implement audits of records to measure and evaluate care planning. Provide information and support to relatives/carers as appropriate Identify clinical risks and ensure appropriate action is taken, in accordance with the Trust Risk Management policy. Investigate complaints, accident reports and untoward incidents within own clinical speciality and in conjunction with the Line Manager and implement recommendations for action.
Lead on the implementation of the Trusts framework for Clinical Governance within own clinical speciality
