Description:

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
The Southampton Oncology Centre is one of the largest in the country with medical and clinical oncology specialities as well as a large haematopoietic stem cell transplant unit.
As a tertiary referral centre we treat both common and rare tumours, making it an exciting and innovative place to work. The Centre has close links with Southampton University, there is a research facility on site and clinical trials are a huge part of our work.
This post is focussed around fulfilling the diverse pharmaceutical needs of the oncology centre to ensure that we provide an exceptional patient experience.
The Southampton Oncology Centre Pharmacy (SOCP) within Platinum House is open 8.30am-5.00pm (Mon-Fri) and 0900-1300 on a Saturday. We also open bank holidays (Monday 0900-1300)
The oncology pharmacy team provides a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to four out-patient treatment areas, six in-patient wards and a clinical research facility.
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
We are looking for a patient centred Registered Pharmacy Technician/Science Manufacturing Technician to join the Southampton Oncology Centre Pharmacy team.
The post will involve cross site working in our purpose-built satellite oncology pharmacy - Platinum House, and in our new Aseptic off-site Hub ‘Adanac Park’, as part of a team of highly motivated pharmacists, technicians and support workers delivering the best care available to cancer patients.
You will be the Senior Technician responsible for providing leadership and support to the twenty-two-production staff (a mix of technicians and support workers) in preparing systemic anticancer treatments (SACT), prioritising and organising workload, performing inspection checks on products, and maintaining and developing the appropriate documentation required for a well performing aseptic unit.
In conjunction with the Accountable Pharmacist for oncology and the Operational Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the unit meets all the requirements of our external audits. Working closely with the principal pharmacist for aseptic services you will continue to support the Operational Lead to develop the service using innovation and new ways of working. Quality improvement underpins everything we do and strive to be.
The department has implemented a state-of-the-art IT compounding system and is committed to developing this further for closed loop administration of chemotherapy and stock control. We are in the process of designing a new offsite licensed unit, Adanac Park, you will be expected to contribute to and be part of this project. This is an exciting time in oncology pharmacy, and you will be expected to lead, integrate, and make a positive contribution to the oncology pharmacy team who lead the pharmacy service to cancer care.
Technical training will be given in all relevant areas to support and develop your role, including Intrathecal training, supervision of staff and ‘Pre and In Process Checking’ and “Product Approval” accreditation, if you do not already have this. We will support you to develop as a leader and provide mentoring if required. In return we expect a commitment to personal development including self-directed learning.
Experience in Aseptic/Oncology preparation would be an advantage, but an opportunity to develop will be provided to help your specialist skills to evolve. We are keen to encourage you to develop as a person by offering you structured training and all the support and encouragement you’d expect from a leading teaching Trust. If you want to develop your career and enjoy your job, this is the place to be.
We are looking to appoint a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Scientist Manufacturing Technician who is adaptable, enthusiastic about change, enjoys problem solving and wants to make a positive contribution to peoples’ lives. We want someone who is driven by caring.
Experience of providing an aseptic pharmacy service in a hospital environment would be an advantage.
We are keen to encourage personal development by offering you structured training and all the support and encouragement you’d expect from a leading teaching Trust
