Equinox Engineering Ltd., a leading EPCM firm headquartered in Calgary, specializes in oil and gas processing, providing comprehensive services in facilities design, implementation, and operational support for natural gas, conventional, and heavy oil projects. Our clientele includes major oil and gas producers in Canada and globally, and we are actively engaged in diverse sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil, heavy oil facility, and pipeline projects.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Process Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As a key member of our organization, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in leading and coordinating process personnel, overseeing the execution and review of various design stages, and ensuring the successful implementation of oil and gas processing projects. The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible for validating process simulations, developing essential design documents, supervising line sizing and equipment process data sheet preparation, and conducting critical reviews such as P&ID/HAZOP. With a focus on leadership, technical expertise, and project success, the ideal candidate will possess significant experience in sweet and sour gas facilities, along with a strong background in gas processing, NGL recovery, acid gas injection dehydration, refrigeration, sulphur plants, turbo-expanders, and gas sweetening units.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • Demonstrate leadership through effective mentorship and coordination of intermediate and junior process personnel.
  • Execute and review Feasibility Studies, Conceptual Design, Process Studies, and Detail Engineering Design.
  • Supervise and validate process simulations and modeling of oil processing facilities.
  • Develop and stamp key design documents such as Material Balance, PFDs, P&IDs, and Shutdown Keys.
  • Supervise and verify line sizing, PSV sizing, and preparation of equipment process data sheets.
  • Conduct P&ID/HAZOP reviews, generate control narratives, and prepare start-up/operating manuals.
  • Collaborate with vendors and clients on engineering issues.
  • Provide technical support to field personnel during start-up.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation is required.
  • Chemical Engineering Degree is essential.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience, with a background in EPCM and Gas Processing.
  • Process design experience, including process mass balances, process flow diagrams, and process support services.
  • Systems design experience, including piping and instrument diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, hazard and operability design reviews, and systems support services.
  • Proficiency with HYSYS and related simulation software, as well as familiarity with engineering codes (API, ASME, ISO).

Responsibilities:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Sweet and sour gas experience is required.
  • Extensive exposure to sweet and sour natural gas facility design and construction related to field facilities, including well-sites, gathering systems, compression, etc., and grass roots gas processing plants.
  • Experience with NGL recovery, Acid gas injection dehydration, Refrigeration, Sulphur Plant, Turbo-Expanders, and Gas Sweetening units is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in regulatory requirements related to gas processing.
  • Familiarity with management of change processes.
  • Keen awareness of budget, schedule constraints, and safety considerations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Diplomatic approach with a focus on maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Skill in fostering cohesive process teams.
