Lead Radiographer - X-Ray

Are you an experienced, dedicated, patient centred plain film radiographer with proven high quality clinical skills? Do you want to develop your leadership skills? We are looking for a plain film specialist to help lead the plain film and theatre imaging service based at Royal Preston Hospital which is part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
You will work with the other lead radiographers in the department to ensure a high standard of patient care and image quality whilst also ensuring the provision of 24h cover to the department. It is anticipated that 50% of your time will be working clinically with other radiographers, assistant practitioners, imaging assistants and students. The other elements of your role will include staff rotas and attendance management as well as helping to ensure compliance with governance and targets relating to staff and service provision.
This role forms part of a management structure in the plain film and theatre services alongside a Principal and other lead radiographers, together forming a strong leadership team to influence the direction of a safe, effective, patient focused plain film and theatre service.
Your role will be operational responsibility for the 24h service, managing the team as well as clinical and quality aspects of patient care and imaging. You will be responsible for the management, supervision and development of the staff ensuring training and governance targets are met.
You will be expected to work clinically for at least 50% of your time to support staff and embed quality standards and also attend SBU and Divisional meetings as required.
You will work closely with other modality leads to provide a complete service. We are working towards QSI accreditation and would want you to get involved in this and would love to hear your ideas for new ways of working.

You will be responsible for managing the clinical and quality aspects of a specific assigned service within Radiology including the supporting team of staff.
You will work closely with the rest of the leadership team to support service delivery and provide effective leadership, support and direction to the team, acting as a Lead Clinical Practitioner, a role model and patient advocate.
Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Communicate with patients, relatives and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating
Manage the service in a safe, effective manner including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by all staff within the team
To participate in development, education and training of staff and students.
Ensure the work area complies with the requirements of IRR and IRMER and related departmental protocols and procedures.
Provide support for research undertaken in department
The post holder will be responsible for the management, supervision and development of the team of staff. This can include highly skilled and specialised band 6 radiographers, band 5 radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and Imaging Department assistants.
They will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice and deploy staff assuring standards are met.
Manage improvements and change, brought about by commitment to and compliance with clinical governance and government NHS plans.
