Independently performs a wide range of routine and specialized laboratory experiments, specimen preparation and highly skilled experimental procedures for research studies. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of the data generated. Provide operational oversight and may oversee the work of research personnel in the laboratory.

In order to qualify you must have:

  • a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant experience or a Master’s of Science and 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in depth, cross functional experienced based knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing including assigning and distributing work, enforcing policies, may conduct performance reviews, and counsel employees with performance and/or disciplinary issues.
  • Ability to write detailed reports and proposals

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the activities of research assistants, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows, ensuring that schedules and deadlines are met and standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Performs routine and highly specialized or unique laboratory experiments for specific research projects, using sophisticated and intricate research equipment and techniques.
  • Performs and devises specialized tests and research procedures, troubleshooting problems with own and other researchers’ results.Provides input on aspects to the overall research design when required: develops protocol that maximizes efficiency of work performed; improves the validity of assays; reduces the use of resources for assays; or refines data through the use of specialized techniques.
  • Analyzes and evaluates data to recommend the course of research, and aid in publication and presentation of results.Calculates, graphs and compiles data obtained in own or other technicians’ studies, maintains records and monitoring logs of work performed, statistical and mathematical analyses for the research personnel.
  • Trains, provides guidance to, and monitors other technicians, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows in specialized procedures, use of equipment and theoretical bases of unique tests.
  • Assists fellows, residents and other physicians with technical aspects of their research projects and the use of laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Prepares articles and papers on specialized research techniques, consulting with other researchers and participating in professional activities to update knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.
  • Collaborates with Research Lab Supervisor or Research Lab Manager to implement new procedures and concepts.
  • Oversees the safety and biohazard handling in the facility. Ensures compliance with safety procedures for the handling, storage and disposal of flammable, corrosive, toxic and radioactive substances.
  • Maintains inventories of consumable supplies and equipment for the facility and submits orders when necessary. Stays abreast of regulations and implements changes in the lab to adhere to new Hospital and federal mandates.
