Description:

The Lead Senior Accountant (remote position) will be responsible for implementing systems, controls, and processes to manage the financial operations of the new ASYMCA Childcare Development Centers (CDCs); and manage daily financial operations of the National Capital Region (NCR) CDC.
The CDC Finance Lead Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, including general accounting, billing, A/R, A/P, financial reporting, cash management, consolidations, and taxes to complete the full finance cycle for daily, monthly, and annual operations of government contracted childcare development centers. This position will also be the team lead for the CDC Staff Accountants and may supervise finance staff performing duties at new CDC locations. This position will be responsible for consolidated reporting of CDC activity as a group, facilitating meetings, developing financial controls and processes, and managing deadlines set by Headquarters Finance.
Salary commensurate with experience $90-115K with annual bonus potential and comprehensive benefits package.

Main Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the month-end close process, accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll activity, and cash management.
  • Supervise and manage accounting functions across new CDC locations and perform consolidation activities.
  • Coordinate with HQ Finance and CDC staff in order to manage the A/P and A/R functions.
  • Review invoices for proper approval and entry into the accounting system for payment; coordinate with appropriate person for check signing, supervise the AP process.
  • Review credit card transactions and maintain ASYMCA accounting and corporate card policies and procedures.
  • Review Fixed Assets; ensure any new assets added are set up properly for depreciating; run monthly depreciation, and facilitate the proper capitalization procedures.
  • Manage annual accruals and year end activity for any applicable revenue earned or expenses incurred.
  • Perform general account analysis and any reconciliations needed on a monthly basis.
  • Perform monthly analysis of budget versus actual on the consolidated income statement and the financial statements by program and alert the VP of Finance or CFO to any financial anomalies.
  • Assist the Senior Vice President of Childcare and Youth Programs with reporting and financial analysis including annual budget support.
  • Provide reports as requested to the VP of Finance and/or the Executive Management Team.
  • Set priorities and goals for daily work and projects.
  • Establish and maintain corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure conformance with GAAP and internal accounting and reporting guidelines.
  • Serve as a key technical accounting resource for all new CDCs.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls to verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
  • Ensure accounting systems and processes are continually streamlined via process improvement and automation to achieve greater efficiencies, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting.
  • Ensure that the operational and design effectiveness of internal controls is maintained.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Experience with educational grants or educational/childcare organizations required
  • Supervisory experience required – minimum two years
  • Non-profit or governmental accounting experience required
  • Prior experience in government contracting preferred
  • Experience with Sage Intacct accounting system preferred
  • Minimum 10 years total experience
  • Recent demonstrated progressive experience
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to apply a positive team approach to produce quality results in an efficient manner
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Able to perform sedentary work including working at a workstation and performing repetitive keyboarding activities.
  • Able to operate general office equipment. Visual and hearing acuity necessary to operate equipment, use telecommunication, read fine print, and utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Some physical effort may be required.
