IT Operations manages the IT infrastructure and supporting services that are critical for HSBC employees and customers, such as cost-efficient hardware, system software, middleware and databases, data centres, voice and data networks, ATMs, desktops and other devices.
The area comprises five functions: Client Services, Enterprise Services and Architecture, Data Centre and Service Management, Relationship Management, Project Management and Risk and Administration. Collectively, these areas define and deliver HSBC’s technology strategy to support the Group’s goals.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Lead Site Reliability Engineer, GPS Technology.
Principal Responsibilities
As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you’ll help build a meaningful engineering discipline, combining software and systems to develop creative engineering solutions to operations problems. Much of our support and software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and reducing work through automation. You’ll join a team of curious problem solvers with a diverse set of perspectives who are thinking big and taking risks. In this environment, you’ll take the lead on relevant projects, supported by an organization that provides the support and mentorship you need to learn and grow. As an SRE, you’ll be focused on running better production applications and systems.
In this role as an SRE, you will be act as bridge between PE and the Engineering Teams who are involved in building world class Payments solutions for Domestic and Emerging Payments. Your key focus will be ensure -Work in close collaboration with production engineering teams during incidents and contribute actively to timely service resumption. You will also be the guiding force to embed design principles like secure and resilient by design, observability, chaos engineering with a shift left mindset.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement SRE frameworks to the HSBC Domestic Payments ecosystem which has varied tech stack from Cloud hosted technology solution to on premise Virtual machine hosted vendor products
  • HSBC Payments environment is complex and majority of the Tier-0 Payment solutions are part of this payments environment and hence as a Senior technical SME you will need be the gatekeeper to ensure changes being rolled out to Production are capable of meeting the HSBC Resiliency and availability standards
  • You will institute strong process governance to manage, administrate the Change lifecycle of different DOME solutions
  • Bring in Industry expertise to create and implement the Cloud Engineering strategies
  • Strong advocate of consistent, best in class DevOps models that are fully automated, scalable and predictable. Act as Quality gatekeeper to ensure changes to DOME Payments environments are managed as per HSBC standards
  • Coach and Mentor junior team members to carry forward the vision of building world-class payments ecosystem for HSBC
  • Ready to participate in 24x7 SRE on-call rotations and escalation workflows as needed
  • Work in PE to ensure that change management is measurable and PE team are comfortable to support application changes as per HSBC defined PE models
  • Support the DOME CIO in communicating wider resiliency strategies, by creation of suitable technical documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 16 or more years of IT experience with expertise in Enterprise Cloud infrastructure with Kubernetes based container Orchestration expertise. Multi cloud experience like AWS, GCP is crucial as the job role will involve building cloud ready technology solutions for Payments. Job also involves managing changes for Vendor/ Third party software which are hosted on premise or multi-cloud
  • In-depth OS experience (RHEL, Ubuntu, Windows Server) with strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Expertise in one of the following programming languages: Java or Golang with a focus on Site Reliability Engineering and support of cloud services. Usage of industry standard frameworks like Camunda, SpringBoot Camel or any other event driven orchestration frameworks is a must
  • Strong expertise in Observability principles covering Open Telemetry, Splunk, Log aggregation techniques, Data Dog, Elk, FluentD, Prometheus, Grafana, Kiali, Jaeger are some of the key technologies/tooling that candidate should be conversant with
  • Candidate should have worked on building elastic scalable solution with good experience in service tuning to achieve optimum performance. Good understanding of data principles viz-a-viz data store, lineage and data archival are key for this role
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills on cloud ready technology
  • Strong working knowledge of modern development technologies and tools such Agile, CI/CD, Git, Terraform and Jenkins
  • Good understanding of networking protocols and cybersecurity best practices in cloud environment
  • Cloud certification in either AWS, Azure or GCP is required. GCP certification is highly preferred
  • Should have strong experience in building solutions with distribute data stores, high available cache like Hazel Cast/ Reddis and also databases (relational as well No SQL) to achieve desired application performance
