Wood is recruiting for a Lead Structural Engineer to provide and support structural engineering activities on our offshore projects, to be based in our Staines office in Middlesex.

This position is on a contract basis and will run for a duration for 12 months.

The Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for the technical integrity of the Structural deliverables. The successful candidate shall strive to be aware of the cost implications of their decisions and raise any query with the Engineering Manager or department manager:

  • To provide and support structural engineering activities to Wood projects currently under way.
  • Acting as Lead Structural Engineer. The discipline responsibility includes Weight Control and Architectural.
  • Planning and scheduling of discipline activities and deliverables, including man-hour estimating when required.
  • Manages discipline work to the required schedule and man-hour allocation, including requesting personnel as identified by the plan and day to day supervision of structural discipline personnel on the project.
  • Manages the discipline engineers and designers to ensure schedule milestones are achieved and man-hour budgets are effectively controlled.
  • Acting as discipline approver (& originator where necessary) for all structural engineering deliverables (specifications, procedures, SACS computer analyses, calculations, 2D drawings, MTOs and structural design reports).
  • Acting as approver/checker for all discipline deliverables.
  • Coordinates with all disciplines (as necessary) in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensuring that the other disciplines’ input is incorporated.
  • Reviews the Basis of Design (BOD) and the Project Execution Plan (PEP).
  • Ensures structural compliance with structural specifications as well as applicable code requirements and national /international standards.
  • Checks/ approves structural weight estimation for input into the project weight report.
  • Responsible for interface with Client and external third parties such as Installation Contractor, Fabrication and Verification Contractors, coordinates meetings and handles responses arising from these interfaces.
  • Performs preliminary sizing of structural steel to provide preliminary input into layout group.
  • Review all relevant client provided data for structural implications and requirements.
  • Reports on work status/ problem areas/ needs.
  • Liaison with and reporting to Project Management and Client.
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject.
  • Masters Degree Preferred. Chartered Engineer and member of appropriate engineering institution.

Experience Requirements:
Previous experience In a lead engineering role on offshore projects. Familiarity with offshore engineering software including SACS. Familiarity with pre-service and in-service design conditions for offshore structures
