Description:

The learning development team at Lancaster University are seeking to appoint a learning developer with experience in teaching EAP (English for Academic Purposes) for a nine-month maternity leave cover. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an enthusiastic and dedicated team to meet students’ English language development needs across the institution. The successful candidate will join a team a team of ten Learning Developers, managed from the library, most of whom have faculty-specific roles.
You will be responsible for collaborating on the design, development and teaching of workshops, supporting students on a range of language and study-related topics in one-to-one appointments, running activities to support the development of students’ spoken English, and liaising with other learning developers to deliver some faculty-specific sessions. You will work with students from all faculties at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The role will also include training and overseeing a small team of students who work with us as English language assistants.
You will have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline and a teaching qualification such as Cambridge CELTA. You will have experience of teaching on EAP programmes in an HE context where English is the medium of instruction.
This varied and challenging role presents an opportunity for an EAP specialist who is keen to work in innovative ways to develop students’ English language skills in an academic context. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work sensitively with students and colleagues from a range of cultural and academic backgrounds.
