WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You will have experience supervising research students and excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building positive relationships with staff, collaborators, and students. Additionally, you will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a diverse workforce.

You will also have:

  • Completion of a PhD in environmental science or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental science and expertise related to vegetation ecology and management, including field ecology.
  • Demonstrated experience, relative to opportunity, in developing engaging undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching programs.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for independent research, with a sound publication record in relevant areas, commensurate with experience and relative to opportunity.
  • Experience in supervising research students, relative to opportunity.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences is seeking an outstanding environmental scientist specialising in vegetation management. In this role, you will contribute to teaching excellence in vegetation management, ecology, and interdisciplinary subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
You will also establish a research program that advances academic knowledge and benefits the broader community through effective engagement and outreach activities. Collaborating with industry, government, community partners, including Indigenous communities, you will foster new environmental science opportunities across the Faculty and University. Based at the Parkville Campus in Melbourne’s CBD, you will have access to state-of-the-art research equipment and infrastructure, working closely with other staff and environmental research groups.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with colleagues to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate environmental science subjects, teaching topics related to vegetation management, field ecology (including plant ecology) and interdisciplinary offerings.
  • Design and develop curriculum in areas of environmental science that complement and build on the existing strengths of the School.
  • Prepare and delivery lectures, tutorials, practicals and seminars as appropriate.
  • Provide academic mentoring and assistance to students.
  • Coordinate and run student field trips.
  • Conduct internationally competitive research in environmental science
  • Contribute to and publish academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne.
