Description:

Lancaster University Management School is committed to continuously enhancing the student experience and graduate outcomes for its students. As part of a School-wide initiative we are seeking a scholar with a demonstrable interest in pedagogical and qualitative thinking skills development, to be based in the Department of Organisation, Work and Technology.
The Department of Organisation, Work and Technology invites applications for a full-time Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship). This position focusses on teaching and pedagogical scholarship to stimulate the educational, academic and personal development of our students. We are inviting candidates particularly interested in developing our students’ qualitative thinking about management, business and their place in society and the world, and so improve their employability in graduate labour markets. The ideal candidate should have a PhD in the humanities, social sciences, or related fields, by the time of the appointment, and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the pedagogy underlying the teaching of social and cultural dimensions of management and business in the contemporary world. The candidate should have a significant interest and some experience in teaching and the development of learning and study skills in management and business from a qualitative perspective. The postholder will be initially providing support to undergraduate modules on themes related to management, organisations, entrepreneurship and society. This support would take the form of working with students 1-to-1 and in small groups, as well as supporting module leaders in designing both formative and summative assessments. The aim is to help students develop their: (i) capacity to consider complex problems in a systematic manner using critical analysis; (ii) capacity to analyse and discriminate among contemporary flows of information and forms of intelligence, and among the arguments constructed on the bases of these sources; and (iii) capacity to articulate coherent, well-informed and well-constructed arguments in various forms (oral and written).
For informal enquiries about the post please contact Prof Bogdan Costea, Head of Department, Organisation, Work and Technology – b.costea@lancaster.ac.uk
You will be expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of our department, the faculty and the university, to maintain a high-quality scholarship agenda that reaches out to external networks of collaborators, as well as contribute to scholarship activities within the department and the School. The teaching responsibilities will consist of contributions to core subjects in the postholders’ areas of interest.
Our department offers excellent teaching and research environments, with a high level of collegiality, strong seminar series, and strong collaborations with departments in the social sciences and health research. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, LUMS was ranked first in the UK in research power and is one of few management schools whose programs are accredited by all three international business school accreditation bodies: AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB.
