About the Role:
The Legal Application Engineer is an integral part of Latham’s Technology & Information Services team. This role will be responsible for supporting the evaluation and scoping of new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered applications through rapid prototyping, user testing, and rapid iteration, while working independently to research and develop comprehensive AI and Machine Learning (ML) prototypes that solve business requirements. This role will be located in our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translating these into technical requirements for AI prototypes
  • Contributing to the ideation, research, and development of solutions, while collaborating with ML Engineers to transition prototypes into production
  • Participating in consultations with development staff, legal experts, end-users, and Machine Learning Engineers to elucidate system requirements and functionalities
  • Staying up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to help foster innovation
  • Coding, testing, and debugging application systems per specifications

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Demonstrate familiarity with frontend technologies (e.g., React, HTML, CSS) and Python backend frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI)
  • Display proficiency with Python, including experience with libraries and frameworks relevant to AI application development (e.g., LangChain, Streamlit, LlamaIndex, Sematic Kernel, guidance-ai, GraphRAG, Haystack, Guardrails, etc.)
  • Exhibit the ability to work with unit tests, integration tests, and common Python testing frameworks

And have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or related fields; a minimum of three (3) years of equivalent professional relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Python experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with full stack development, preferably
