Essential Skills & Experience

  • Legal Assistant Certification from an accredited institution or the equivalent.
  • 3 to 7 years’ experience as a legal assistant in the area of litigation with knowledge and understanding of the Alberta Court Rules.
  • Good understanding of law office procedures.
  • Strong computer skills in the area of Microsoft Suite.
  • iManage, 3E experience would be an asset, but is not required.
  • Rigor and attention to detail.
  • Good organization and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize workload while working to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Behaving in a professional manner with lawyers, clients and other team members at all levels.
  • Team-spirit, strong sense of collaboration and positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at the office 2-3 days per week according to business needs which may continue to evolve

Responsibilities:

This is a non-exempt/overtime-eligible, permanent full-time position with a hybrid work mode consisting of 2-3 days per week onsite at the Calgary office.
The legal assistant will provide direct support to a team of partners and associates. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation of correspondence, litigation documents and pleadings as well as attending to electronic filing; updating pleadings and trial binders; setting discoveries, trials and applications; and various other related duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and production of a variety of legal documents, with accuracy, in the area of litigation.
  • Attending to file openings, preparation and management.
  • Preparation of daily correspondence.
  • Entering time and working with the billing department, as required.
  • Proofreading of typed material for grammatical, typographical or spelling error.
  • Maintaining an efficient bring forward/follow-up system.
  • Carrying out other relevant administrative tasks as required by new or emerging business needs.
