Description:

We are offering an opportunity for a Legal Assistant in the government sector, located in Atlanta, Georgia. The role involves a variety of responsibilities in the legal field, particularly focused on claim investigations and case management. This position offers a short term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement investigative plans to collect information from various sources such as witnesses, electronic data, physical evidence, etc. for claim validation.
  • Liaise and coordinate with individuals, insurance companies, attorneys, government agencies, and inter-departmental teams to manage and investigate claims effectively.
  • Conduct site visits as part of the investigation process.
  • Schedule and conduct interviews with witnesses including employees, medical professionals, and other relevant individuals.
  • Use investigative techniques and critical thinking skills to screen and evaluate claims.
  • Respond promptly to claims-related calls, letters, texts, and emails, and provide regular updates to claimants and other concerned parties.
  • Maintain case files effectively using case management software.
  • Manage workload efficiently to ensure a timely and effective resolution of the claim while limiting liability.
  • Build relationships with key members of the Law Department Practice Groups and other departments within the city for efficient coordination.
  • Prepare a written summary of the claim investigation and preliminary settlement document with recommendations for claim disposition for review by the Claims Manager or Supervisory Attorney.
  • Present case studies to team members, identifying issues and challenges encountered, and providing best practices on claim resolution.
  • Utilize a variety of resource tools to assist in investigations, such as state and local codes, legal databases, and special investigation tools.
  • Operate the Department of Law’s Document Management System proficiently.
  • Must have a strong understanding of civil litigation procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with municipal legal matters
  • Proven ability to submit claims in a timely and accurate manner
  • Must have experience in case management, including maintaining case files and tracking deadlines
  • Ability to conduct thorough and effective legal investigations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have a professional and ethical conduct
  • Knowledge of government legal regulations and procedures
  • Proficiency in using legal software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, paralegal studies, or a related field
  • Prior experience in a government legal assistant role would be advantageous.
