Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seasoned Legal and Compliance Counsel to join our client’s dynamic team. This role offers the chance to provide proactive legal advice and support across their APAC region. Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a Legal & Compliance Counsel for the Asia Pacific region, you will play an integral role in our client’s operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include providing regular advice on legal and compliance matters, drafting and reviewing commercial contracts, managing external counsel, and taking proactive steps to mitigate legal risks. You will also be responsible for maintaining contract administration, implementing company policies, and providing training on new laws and regulations. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
- Regularly advise and support business on all legal and compliance matters across APAC operations
- Interact effectively with business teams across APAC to understand business challenges and provide legal advisory
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts for various jurisdictions
- Manage outside counsels and take pre-emptive measures to avoid legal risks and conflicts
- Provide legal services while maintaining and coordinating contract administration
- Draft, review, and implement company policies and regulations
- Provide legal and compliance training, advising on new laws and regulations
The ideal candidate for this Legal & Compliance Counsel position brings a wealth of experience from both law firms and in-house roles. You should hold a law degree with admission to the Bar in Malaysia. A minimum of eight (8) years’ post qualification experience is preferred. Candidates who have worked in a highly regulated environment will be viewed favorably. Your cross-cultural work experience will be invaluable in this role, as will your excellent communication skills and proficiency in English. Your strong analytical skills, willingness to learn, and ability to establish effective working relationships will set you apart.
- Law degree with admission to the Bar in Malaysia
- Work experience as an attorney-at-law in a reputable law firm and as in-house legal counsel
- Experience in the healthcare/medical industry would be an added advantage
- Cross-cultural work experience
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with proficiency in English. Candidates who are proficient in Mandarin will be viewed favorably
- Strong analytical skills with a willingness to learn
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with personnel at all organisational level
