REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / ATTRIBUTES:

• Hold a Construction safety induction (white card).
• Tertiary qualification in Law and requirements enabling admission to practice in Australia.
• Minimum of five (5) years PQE in corporate/commercial environment with a full exposure to financial legal matters.
• Experience in resolving contractual disputes essential.
• Demonstrated strong understanding of the core principles of contract law, construction law and Corporations law. An understanding of employment law would be well regarded.
• Previous exposure or a demonstrated knowledge of ship building industry and/or engineering concepts would be well regarded.
• Previous exposure or a demonstrated knowledge of Australian Department of Defence or government contracting (ASDEFCON suite) would be well regarded.
• Demonstrated high level of proficiency in providing practical, commercially focussed solutions to often complex contractual legal issues.
• Demonstrated capability to work as a part of a team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Austal are looking for a Legal Counsel who will be working closely with the Senior Legal Counsel, Commercial Manager and General Counsel. This role is responsible for providing the company with legal advice, to assist in the negotiation and execution of contracts, management of risk, resolution of disputes, governance and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
