The BCFMA is responsible for supporting BC families by providing a free service to track and collect child and spousal support. Our in-house Legal Counsel positions assist in the effective administration of child/spousal maintenance support through the provision of legal services to the Agency and providing BCFMA staff with advice on all aspects of family maintenance law.

The BCFMA is currently recruiting for a part-time up to full-time Legal Counsel position in our Kamloops office.

Responsibilities:

As the successful candidate, you will be a part of a diverse and inclusive team with opportunities for personal and professional growth. We also provide comprehensive training in a positive learning environment. In our world, no day is ever the same, but you can expect a typical day to include some combination of the following:

  • Providing client managers, case managers and other BCFMA staff with advice on all aspects of family maintenance law.
  • Responsible for preparing cases for Court, instructing external legal counsel, and making Court appearances as a representative of the BC Family Maintenance Agency.
  • Working effectively with legal assistant team members to provide high quality and timely legal services.
  • Effectively communicating with other stakeholders in the family law legal system including payors and recipients.
