Description:
SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal and compliance support to retirement operations and the corporate real estate group. Responsibilities include assisting with real estate transactions, drafting and reviewing commercial contracts and commercial lease documents, providing support and guidance on legal and compliance issues impacting Chartwell by providing counsel on a wide range of issues. The position will work with all departments as well as key external stakeholders.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 to 6 years of experience in private practice and/or in-house.
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
EDUCATION:
- LL.B / J.D. designation from an accredited Canadian law school
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to assess legal risks in business context and offer practical solutions
- Analytical ability and strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work
- Excellent negotiation, written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to work in French is preferred
