EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.
- Must be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
- Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of post-call experience in a law firm or in-house corporate position practicing law in the areas including but not limited to Corporate Law, Human Rights, Education Law, General and Labour Relations and Employment Law.
- Utilizing knowledge of dispute resolution processes and legislation relevant to post-secondary education sector and broader public sector is preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Reviews and provides legal advice to senior management and project/process owners on College matters, such as contract risk management, student placement and work integrated learning agreements, general corporate commercial matters including but not limited to information technology contracts, intellectual property, copyright and privacy, and administrative law matters.
- In collaboration with the General Legal Counsel, assesses and advises on the financial and public relations risks to the College on complex legal issues; providing legal counsel on a variety of high-profile issues which have media attention; providing legal counsel on complex agreements with government agencies.
- Researches and makes decisions on legal interpretation and applicability of policy, statutes, and case law to a particular fact situation. Consults with the General Legal Counsel on complex matters prior to giving legal advice to client departments.
- Ensures that legal advice and legal services are provided in a timely and professional manner to client departments. Develops processes and tools to increase efficiency and improve effectiveness of the services provided by the office of the General Counsel.
- Familiar with the relevant legislation, regulations, the Minister’s Binding Directives, and other relevant statues governing the College sector and capable of interpreting the legislative framework and be conversant with legislation relevant to College and its application in a large, complex unionized environment.
- Other related duties as assigned.
