Description:

High Tide Inc. is expanding with our exponential growth and seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team with experience in Compliance and Regulatory. Our organization is fast paced, growing, and highly successful in the cannabis retail space. As our Legal Counsel, with experience in Compliance and Regulatory you will serve as a subject matter expert for all regulatory and compliance matters and provide the business with advice on these matters on behalf of the Legal department of High Tide Inc. The position reports to Vice President, Legal. This new and exciting role will be based in Calgary, Alberta Canada.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Contribute as a member of the Legal and Compliance/Regulatory team bringing your experience and creative legal skills to provide practical solutions to our businesses.
  • Regulatory review and analysis, including applicable Canadian and foreign legislation.
  • Act as an expert on the legal and regulatory framework for the sale and distribution of cannabis and cannabis products in Canada and worldwide.
  • Assist the Vice President and Legal Counsel in identifying and assessing legal risks and developing strategies to mitigate risks and protect High Tide’s interests.
  • Act as a legal expert and collaborate with external legal firms with respect to any litigation matters.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Compliance, ensure the planning, day-to-day management and control of legal and regulatory activities dictated by Provincial and Federal authorities.
  • Act as the Privacy Officer for the company and develop appropriate protocols for this function.
  • Lead SOX compliance initiatives for the legal department.
  • Manage and respond to Regulatory requests for information ensuring responses comply with applicable privacy laws.
  • Conduct routine checks on compliance with various elements of the company’s business.
  • Manage and supervise external legal support.
  • In collaboration with other members of the Legal and Compliance department, update precedent contracts and contract management processes and help to identify opportunities to streamline the Legal department.
  • Develop tools that empower the business to move quickly.
  • Complete other legal review and drafting requirements for the business.

Qualifications:

  • Law Degree, Member of a Provincial Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience.
  • This position requires a law degree with a minimum of 5 years of legal experience with an emphasis on risk, compliance and regulatory knowledge is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of SOX experience is an asset.
