We have an opportunity available for a Legal Counsel to join our Investment Management Legal team based in Sydney or Brisbane.

ABOUT YOU

You will be looking for the next step in your career, with between 4 and 6 years PQE. You will have gained experience in either in-house or at a reputable firm. Ideally you will have previous experience working on capital partnering transactions, or large corporate transactions, joint ventures or M&A. Commercially focused and results driven, you’re comfortable working with multiple stakeholders. You have excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative approach.

In addition you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary education
  • Hold valid practicing certificate permitting practice in New South Wales or Queensland

Responsibilities:

THE OPPORTUNITY - ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Legal Counsel in our Investment Management team you will work on joint ventures and capital partnering, acquisitions and disposals, as well as provide legal support to Stockland’s growing investment management platform. Working closely with Senior Legal Counsel, Senior Managers and the General Counsel – Investment Management, this role will be a key member of deal teams, working closely with a diverse range of senior stakeholders. This role is based from our Sydney office with the successful candidate having the flexibility to balance working from the office and home.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Draft, advise, negotiate, and execute on agreements with third-party institutional capital and financial institutions.
  • Provide legal support to internal teams on contractual, strategic and governance matters related to third-party institutional capital.
  • Coordinate transaction management including due diligence, completion checklists and execution processes alongside Group Legal colleagues.
  • Instruct and work closely with external legal counsel on key transactions.
  • Clearly present and explain contract conditions, details, and risk to internal business partners.
  • Consider and advise on the implications of the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act and other laws relevant to third-party institutional capital.
  • Draft, enhance, or implement policies and procedures to streamline operations relating to third-party institutional capital transactions and funds management.
  • Undertake or participate in ad hoc legal projects as required.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of internal training on legal topics.
  • Contribute to the preparation and updating of precedent documents used across the Investment Management team.
