Responsibilities:

OF ROLE

Nominet has a legal team of three lawyers, which advise all areas of the business. Most legal work is kept in house, although we have access to external law firms for some contentious and specialist advisory work.
The legal counsel role at Nominet is very varied. You will report to the general counsel and provide legal advice for the .UK registry part of the business including reviewing contracts, intellectual property management and disputes, internet policy development, together with general corporate legal advice.
The .UK registry has an unusual business structure and operation, and an ability to deal creatively with new and sometimes challenging legal issues is required. The internet is international. We have established relationships with other country code registries throughout the world. There will be an opportunity for international travel as part this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Legal Business Partner for Nominet’s .UK internet domain name registry and registry services business, including customer and supplier contracts and day to day general advice.
  • Support for other business areas and policy work as required.
  • Coordination of Dispute Resolution Service activities.
  • Application of Nominet policies on business decisions.
  • Risk management: balancing an entrepreneurial approach with prudent business practices.
