Description:

Hello, we’re Severn Trent and we think water is wonderful. Oh, we’re pretty keen on people too.
24 hours a day, 365 days a year we serve 4.8 million households and business across the heart of the UK. Each cuppa drank and every toilet flushed is only possible because of the 9,000 brilliant team members working across our patch.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and the communities where they live.
We are looking for a Commercial Lawyer to join our dynamic and diverse Legal Team based at our head office in Coventry. You will provide legal services to Severn Trent for Commercial, Procurement, Intellectual Property and some Data Protection matters.
As an in-house lawyer you will be open to taking on new challenges and new ways of thinking. You will provide high quality legal advice to your business areas having regard to the need for appropriate management of corporate legal risk and delivery of legal services to the Company, especially across our Commercial Team. This role would suit lawyers who have a commercial background, and prior experience working on regulated procurements is desirable.
You will be a great team player, will seek to understand the business, and help to deliver its strategic objectives and the vision of the General Counsel team. You will benefit from the support of colleagues throughout the business and drive to ensure we create an awesome place to work. As a member of the Legal Team you will be part of the wider General Counsel Team directorate, which also includes Group Compliance and Assurance.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • A broad commercial and procurement role, working closely with other colleagues, which will include providing excellent legal support on a broad range of non- contentious matters including supporting our Commercial and Innovation Teams, as well as other business directorates within Severn Trent.
  • A legal business partner with our Innovation and Commercial Teams.
  • You will proactively identify and undertake such activity as may be required within your area of responsibility to meet strategic business plans and company performance targets.
  • Consider any forthcoming changes in legal or regulatory requirements which could impact on the business (either positively or negatively).
  • Proactively consider strategic/policy objectives of the company with a view to influencing key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure customers’ needs are at the heart of all advice and decisions.

Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a qualified professional with extensive industry experience providing legal services across a broad range of non-contentious matters. A strong commercial acumen with an understanding of the needs to balance legal risk against achieving business strategy would be beneficial.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involve; those who are ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care. Is that you?
