ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Education: Admitted as a solicitor in one or more States in Australia (or equivalent qualifications from overseas and taking steps to be admitted in Australia).
  • Experience: 5-6 years post qualification experience at or nearing senior associate level from a quality law firm or in-house team.
  • Strong legislative comprehension.
  • Strong negotiating and drafting skills.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork, supporting the legal team on varied workloads.
  • Ability to provide commercially focused legal support.
  • Autonomy in work, under the direction of a legal team member.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Efficient management of meetings.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Word processing skills.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Legal Counsel position will provide comprehensive legal advice across various business units, addressing matters related to manufacturing, sales, distribution, trading, procurement, property, health and safety, environment, human resources, employment, privacy law, and IT. Additionally, this role will be involved in legal compliance, policy review, and advising on corporate-level issues, including major projects and transactions.
This is a full-time role based in the Melbourne office. Some interstate travel will be required and the company has a flexible work policy where you can work two days from home and the other three in office.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assisting the Legal Team in providing legal advice to the Group.
  • Reviewing/drafting sales/supply contracts.
  • Reviewing/drafting procurement contracts, including some small-scale construction contracts.
  • Negotiating terms of sales and procurement agreements.
  • Advising on compliance with competition laws, anti-bribery and sanctions laws.
  • Advising on intellectual property matters, general property matters, freight/shipping issues, and environmental licenses/infringements.
  • Managing and advising on general litigation.
  • Advising on agreements in the event of force majeure.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards and regulations.
