Job Description
The Senior Legal Counsel provides tactical and strategic legal advice to internal clients, typically at the Director, Vice President or SVP level.
Responsibilities
- Provide tactical and strategic legal advice to internal clients including senior and executive leadership in PBM, pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, government programs, administrative support functions or other areas as assigned
- Engage BCBS owner counsel on various matters including but not limited to: leading them through legal analysis, collaboration processes, education on PBM activities, support for Prime’s various positions on legal matters, etc.
- Perform research, drafting and transactional work in support of legal matters; manage litigation efforts for assigned business area
- Provide client training on legal principles
- Coordinate partnership with in-house and outside legal resources where appropriate
- Provide mentorship to department staff
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris doctor degree
- Current license to practice law
- 10 years of experience practicing as an attorney or related legal experience in a regulatory or compliance role, with a minimum of 5 years of experience as an attorney representing managed care companies or other health care clients
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

- Demonstrated ability to influence business clients and effect necessary change in policies or behaviors
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with competing priorities
- Financial acumen and familiarity with common business finance principles
- Demonstrated ability to distill complex concepts or situations into concise and compelling communications
- Demonstrated expertise within one or more practice areas required by Prime’s business needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PBMs, pharmacies and/or health benefit insurers
- 3 years of litigation experience
Minimum Physical Job Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Constantly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk and hear
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Reporting Structure
- Reports to AVP or VP in the legal department
Potential pay for this position ranges from $144,000.00 - $230,200.00 based on experience and skills. Pay range may vary by 8% depending on applicant location.
