Description:

Cozen O’Connor LLP is hiring a dynamic full time Legal Practice Assistant for the Capital Markets & Securities practice group in the Toronto office.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter, who is able to multi-task under time constraints with exceptional attention to detail, take initiative, think strategically and independently and interact with all levels of the firm. The position requires excellent communication, organizational and computer skills for assisting senior attorneys.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operation of lawyers’ practices with a primary focus in Capital Markets & Securities
  • Prepare, edit and complete all necessary correspondence and documentation
  • Draft, create and update various lawyer documents such as docket sheets and case file logs
  • Organize, prepare and maintain client and office files both in electronic and paper filing systems
  • Open and sort incoming communications via standard or electronic delivery and distribute appropriately
  • Process new file openings and engagement letters
  • Produce the highest quality of work, including sending out demands or legal letters to opposing counsel
  • Process lawyers weekly time summaries, expense reports, check requests and travel arrangements which include transportation, automobile rentals, and hotel reservations
  • Accountable for all work assigned
  • Proofread all work for both content and context
  • Arrange meetings
  • Calendar management

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years’ previous experience as a Legal Assistant in Capital Markets & Securities
  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program
  • Strong project management skills
  • Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands
  • Must possess strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be very detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Tech savvy and proficient in advanced levels of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications and able to professionally interact with clients, lawyers, and staff is required
  • Experience in working collaboratively and applying individual commitment to a group or team environment in the spirit of cooperation to successfully complete tasks efficiently and quickly
  • Experience with document management program – iManage DeskSite preferred
