The SPD is currently recruiting to fill one full-time Legal Secretary (LS) in our Madison Appellate office.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Legal Secretary (LS) works with attorneys and clients, providing legal secretarial support to the local office. The LS is also responsible for processing notices of intent and out of time requests for appellate representation, appointment of new cases and discretionary matters to both staff attorneys and private bar attorneys. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications (Required – Candidates must have experience and/or training relevant to these areas in order to be considered for this position):

  • Providing administrative, clerical or office support (e.g., greeting visitors, answering phones, mail distribution, etc.)
  • Working with computers (e.g., word processing, database entry, email, scheduling, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Proofreading documents (Note: your cover letter will be used to assess your proofreading abilities and will be assessed for proper punctuation, grammar and spelling)

A well-qualified candidate will also have experience and/or training in the following areas:

  • Working with the criminal justice system and/or in other legal settings
