Description:

EDUCATION

  • A university degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, or a related area of study is required.
  • A university degree in Law is considered to be an asset.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in translating texts in English and French.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bilingualism is required.
  • Excellent written skills in French and English.
  • Expert understanding of English and French grammar.
  • Accuracy and keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and translation software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and adherence to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent client service approach through interaction with staff members, directors, and executive directors.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively, under pressure, and as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian legal system is required.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs translations of CBA documents and materials.
  • Reads through, watches, or listens to material in one language, ascertains understanding of the meaning and translates into a second language while preserving the original context and meaning.
  • Translates online, video and audio media to provide translated transcripts and closed captions.
  • Consults with subject matter experts and internal stakeholders to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately.
  • Uses translation software to ensure efficiency and consistency.
  • Assigns translation work to freelance translators, as required.
  • Reviews, proofreads and edits completed translation assignments.
  • Assists with translation request intake, as required.
  • Expands bilingual lexicon used for translations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
