Description:
EDUCATION
- A university degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, or a related area of study is required.
- A university degree in Law is considered to be an asset.
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in translating texts in English and French.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bilingualism is required.
- Excellent written skills in French and English.
- Expert understanding of English and French grammar.
- Accuracy and keen attention to detail.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and translation software.
- Excellent organizational skills and adherence to strict deadlines.
- Excellent client service approach through interaction with staff members, directors, and executive directors.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively, under pressure, and as a part of a team.
- Knowledge of the Canadian legal system is required.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs translations of CBA documents and materials.
- Reads through, watches, or listens to material in one language, ascertains understanding of the meaning and translates into a second language while preserving the original context and meaning.
- Translates online, video and audio media to provide translated transcripts and closed captions.
- Consults with subject matter experts and internal stakeholders to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately.
- Uses translation software to ensure efficiency and consistency.
- Assigns translation work to freelance translators, as required.
- Reviews, proofreads and edits completed translation assignments.
- Assists with translation request intake, as required.
- Expands bilingual lexicon used for translations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
