The position involves being part of a team of librarians dedicated to supporting teaching, learning, and research in the School. Responsibilities include selecting and preparing materials, maintaining collections, developing electronic and print resources, and promoting and delivering these resources to users. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure comprehensive coverage in acquisitions and discovery activities, offering advice and support based on their expertise. The role also requires flexibility in working with Reader Services colleagues for front-of-house services, including evening and weekend support as needed.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Fluency in Chinese languages plus English; effective communication in one of these languages plus English.
  • Sound knowledge of computer applications for accessing and exploiting electronic resources.
  • Proficient in professionally recommended standards in library cataloguing.
  • Professional background in academic libraries.
  • Clear and confident presentation style.
  • Excellent customer service provision.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills with the ability to influence at a senior level.
  • Project delivery capabilities.
  • Planning, organizational, and prioritizing skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A good first degree in a relevant subject.

Responsibilities:

  • Select and acquire materials within budget for arts and humanities based on School priorities.
  • Collaborate on cataloguing and classification, including English, Western, and regional languages and to participate in the physical maintenance (preservation, relegation and disposal) of stock.
  • Handle reference inquiries and provide information services with Reader Services colleagues.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of electronic and traditional information sources in the relevant disciplines and subject fields; to develop and present information skills training.
  • Develop guides and maintain web pages for relevant disciplines and subject fields.
  • Create and promote electronic/print resources, including course reading-lists in the virtual learning environment.
  • To keep abreast of professional and specialist developments through a variety of activities and membership of appropriate bodies and to promote the School externally.
  • Prepare papers, reports, letters, databases, and statistical analyses; set up new information systems as appropriate putting forward recommendations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with booksellers and resource providers regionally and linguistically.
