POSITION: Library/Media Manager
LOCATION: Centennial Middle School
HOURS: 8 Hours Per Day (8:00am - 4:30pm)
CALENDAR: 193 Days Per Year (September through June)
SALARY: Range 6 ($19.16 - $20.61 Per Hour for 2023-2024; 2024-2025 Hourly Rate Pending Union Negotiations)

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT(S): The job of Library/Media Manager, Middle School is to manage the day-to day operations of the library media center; conduct weekly check-out time for all Reading classes; perform clerical and paraprofessional duties associated with the circulation of print and non-print library materials; directly assists students and staff with use of the library. Work is primarily performed without the direct supervision of a Library Media Specialist. Methods of performing the tasks are the responsibility of the employee so long as performed with the established policies and procedures (refer to the Centennial District Elementary and Middle School Library Procedures manual). Work is reviewed periodically to ensure conformance with standards.

REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience Preferred: Two (2) years experience performing library clerical and paraprofessional circulation/cataloging work. Must be an accurate typist.
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
    General skills include alphabetizing materials accurately and quickly; understanding and carrying out oral and written directions; typing with accuracy; operating a computer terminal to input and retrieve data; performing a variety of clerical work and operate standard office machines, including a laminator.
    General knowledge in correct English usage, vocabulary and spelling; modern office methods, procedures and computer equipment; general clerical principles and practices; and demonstrated basic math.
    General abilities to learn basic library/media methods, practices and terminology, including the Dewey Decimal System. Organize and prioritize a wide range of tasks and select work methods which allow for the timely and accurate completion of tasks; be self-directed and perform duties for extended periods of time in the absence of an immediate supervisor. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Requires a light degree of physical stamina and strength. Requires periodic walking, standing, and bending and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. Requires periods of continuous operation of office machines and audio-visual equipment.
    Ability to speak a second language preferred.
    EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School diploma or equivalent. One year of clerical work experience, preferably in an environment with some exposure to the operation of a library.
    LICENSES, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant agrees to assume cost upon offer of employment).
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel. Reports to appropriate Principal.
