Description:
As an Information Assistant in Community Connections, you will work with customers of all backgrounds and help create a positive and welcoming library experience for all. You will provide information and support to customers in Community Connections, help customers access library services, and assist with programs.
As the Information Assistant you will:
- Assist customers in person, over the phone, and online with their information needs.
- Determine the information and service needs of customers and refer to other Sections of Millennium Library as needed.
- Instruct customers in the use of the resources of Community Connections, and the Library’s physical and online resources.
- Assist customers with specialized resources and tools including computer assistance (e.g., resumes, email), phones, printing / copying and online computer bookings.
- Prepare for and host programs by staff and the scheduled social service agencies in Community Connections, including equipment setup as required.
- Assist in the maintenance of the community resource information area of posters, pamphlets and brochures
- Assist in the creation of booklists, reading guides and other promotional tools for specialized topics as assigned.
- Provide tours and orientation sessions as required.
- Take charge of area in the absence of the Librarian 1 or designate.
- Assist in promoting library collections and services.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as required.
YOUR EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer-centered service.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability in Reference/Reader’s Advisory work.
- Ability to deal effectively with other staff members.
- Must possess a good general knowledge of literature and a variety of subject areas, as well as of current affairs and trends.
- Knowledge of computers and the ability to use and assist customers in using the internet, email and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to provide programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Interest in and/or awareness of trauma-informed library services.
Ability to multi-task in a stressful environment.
