ABOUT US
Trans-Northern Pipelines Inc. (TNPI) operates regulated pipelines to safely transport the refined petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, aviation, and heating fuel) used by Canadian businesses and consumers every day. These pipelines connect refineries in Edmonton to Calgary, including the Calgary International Airport; and refineries in Nanticoke, Ont., and Montreal to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with lateral pipelines to Ottawa as well as to Pearson International Airport and Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International Airport. POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Product Movement, the Line Controller in tandem with one additional Line Control partner is responsible for the daily management of the TNPI control center operations. Using TNPI’s SCADA system, the Line Controller has the capability to coordinates the safe, efficient, and timely operation of all/any of TNPI’s operating pipelines. This position supports: Scheduling, Field Services, and Integrity departments, by ensuring that operations, maintenance and inspection initiatives do not pose any safety risks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must-haves (minimum requirements):
- Minimum College Diploma required.
- University Degree in Technology discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in related discipline.
- Demonstrated leadership and advanced decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Alertness, ability to make quick decisions, ability to work with a partner, without direct supervision, orderly thinking and mental control, initiative, dependability, courtesy, tactfulness, and detail orientated.
- Able to work 12 hour rotating shifts (average 39 hours per week) Ability to anticipate potential problems and opportunities, assess risk, and develop plans to address them in a small company Ability to identify and implement “fit for purpose” solutions
Preference for:
- University Degree in Technology discipline is preferred.
- Control Room experience preferred, not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors the 401/427 Utility Tunnel on behalf of TNPI, Enbridge, SCPL, SPPL and the City of Toronto Public Works for critical safety alarms and accesses the need to shut down all TNPI pipelines in the event of an emergency condition.
- Responsible for the safe custody of all fuels within the TNPI systems.
- Initiates and controls all aspects of pipeline products movements from the source stations to the termination via SCADA system.
- Responsible for all ticketing and measurement reconciliation.
- Responsible for the movement of all manual mainline valves operated by field services personnel as directed by the line controller.
- Anticipates hydraulic changes on the pipeline systems as a result of changes in product densities, destinations, and/or upset conditions.
- Performs Emergency Line Locate analysis during off hours, weekends and holidays on behalf of field services.
- Front line responder for all pipeline emergencies. Communicates clearly and effectively with TNPI Incident Commander and management in the event of an emergency situation.
- Assesses abnormal operating condition alarms and takes appropriate action to isolate/shutdown systems and calls out service technicians to return systems back to normal as required.
- Responds to critical safety alarms immediately in order to mitigate risks.
- Prioritizes and coordinates all daily pipeline activities in order minimize any conflicts and maintain operational control.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of all TNPI Control Room Emergency Response Procedures.
- Assists in training new pipeline controllers.
