ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE:
We currently have a permanent opportunity for a Lines Design Engineer – Civil / Structural to join our Operations – Lines, Design & Engineering team, based in Brisbane.
Reporting through to the Senior Lines Design Engineer – Civil/Structural, you will be responsible for providing engineered designs and expertise to internal and external stakeholders. You will coordinate and manage overhead and underground transmission, sub-transmission and special distribution projects throughout Queensland in this structural engineering focused role.
You will prepare engineering design solutions and provide specialised technical advice and support for specialist lines overhead and underground projects and teams.
Engineering Design tasks undertaken day to day include the design of overhead transmission lines and structures (towers/poles) and their components e.g. foundations, structural members, assessing existing structures for modifications or change in loading conditions, structural maintenance activities, design of associated access tracks/pads/retaining structures, underground cables pits – designs and maintenance, temporary works assessment e.g. excavating adjacent to existing walls/buildings/assets etc. Note that experience in these fields is beneficial, but not essential.
The role will involve undertaking site visits to scope new routes, assess existing structures, access requirements and to confirm that construction is being completed in accordance with the design.
You will collaborate with engineering teams to deliver innovative, cost effective, solutions and integrated designs and estimates for your assigned projects to achieve the team’s input to the annual Program of Works and delivery of customer-initiated works.
With flexi-working and a 9 or 10 day fortnight in place, the salary band is $140,751-$161,746 for 9 days and $159,049-$182,744 for 10 days, plus superannuation of 12.75%. The level of payment will be subject to an assessment of the successful applicant’s knowledge, skills and competencies that are required in this position. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Energy Queensland Union Collective Agreement 2020.

Important to the success of your role is your:
- Degree qualifications in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent, and eligible to be a Professional Member of Engineers Australia.
- Previous experience in the design principles and practices of construction and maintenance required for transmission, distribution, and communication lines civil / structural engineering highly regarded but not essential.
- Ability to apply complex first principles to overhead transmission & distribution voltage line design, including analysis of steel towers, concrete & timber poles and the associated structural foundations.
- Ability to provide engineering subject matter expert advice, including undertaking detailed calculations and analysis and preparing complex engineering designs, reports and technical documents
- Communication skills to develop, maintain and collaborate positive relationships with our customers and stakeholders.
- Commitment to the safe design principles and safety requirements associated with the design of specialist overhead and underground lines and associated structures.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the application of engineering software & tools and analysis techniques including SPACE GASS and AutoCAD. Proficiency in the following applications would be highly regarded: Civil 3D/12D, Bluebeam and PLS-CADD
