We are seeking a Litigation Law Clerk to join our Toronto team.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5+ years of litigation law clerk experience, preferably within general insurance litigation. The candidate will be a team player who is proactive, able to handle a busy workload and has a keen eye for details. Please note that WT offers flexible work arrangements for this role!
Responsibilities:
Document management:
- Organizing voluminous documents, including utilizing document management software if applicable
- Analyzing documents for relevance, for producible and privileged purposes
- Drafting Affidavits of Documents and serving on appropriate parties
- Receiving, reviewing and organizing opposing parties’ documents
- Reviewing and summarizing records
- Reviewing discovery transcripts, drafting Refusals and Undertakings Charts, requesting answers to undertakings, following up, etc.
- Preparing expert briefs for specialists/experts with relevant documentation
Trial preparation
Pleadings:
Drafting pleadings– including but not limited to Statements of Defence, Third Party Claims, etc.
- Drafting motion materials including Notices of Motion, Costs Outline, Bill of Costs, Orders, etc.
- Preparing mediation/pre-trial briefs
Miscellaneous:
- Providing general assistance to the lawyer dependent on the lawyer’s needs, including but not limited to drafting correspondence on lawyer’s behalf, tracking the status of the lawyer’s files, conducting court searches, etc.
Legal and other research as requested by lawyerCommunicating with clients, opposing parties and court staff
