LITIGATION SPECIALIST

Do you have multi-line claims handling work experience and enjoy investigating the facts? Do you consider yourself to be analytical with a high-level of curiosity? As a Litigation Specialist you will manage multi-line claims to include property, liability, and first/third-party exposures. To thrive in this position, you should have experience handling complex level bodily injury claims.

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate lawsuits and direct the activities of defense attorneys for claims involving litigation and/or complex injuries which are to be handled with advanced technical proficiency
  • Complete an initial review and analysis of a policy’s coverage to determine that there is the correct coverage in place for the claim
  • Complete an in-depth investigation and/or review of initial investigation to properly evaluate and ensure a correct assessment of the exposure
  • Review the relevant venue specific case law
  • Complete case evaluations and ensures the proper reserves are placed on exposures in accordance with the company’s reserving philosophy
  • Attend depositions, trials, and arbitrations, when applicable
  • Negotiates claims to a resolution within the authority given
  • Recognize, investigate, and handle, as necessary, recoveries from subrogation, salvage, liens, loss transfers, or other related claim areas
  • Manage all correspondence relating to the litigation files and respond accordingly
  • Review all legal expenses incurred
  • Report to Claims Committee, when appropriate
  • Evaluate claims for bodily injury and review medical reports, records, and bills
  • Calculate past/future medical expenses and past and future wage loss, where applicable
  • Analyze the value of personal injury claims for compensation
  • Consider alternative dispute resolutions, utilizing creative strategy
  • Finalize decisions when determining the appropriate course of action for the file, considering the exposure of the insured, the company, and cost factors
  • Maintain ongoing continuing education (CE) for required state licensing
