Description:
This post is for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology and cover subfertility clinics.
Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust is transforming its Gynaecological services with the extension of several nurse led services, community one stop clinics and the introduction of new treatment services in the out-patient settings. New treatment rooms have created opportunities to introduce newer out-patient procedural clinics including out-patient hysteroscopy clinics. The advertised post is an exciting new post intended to lead benign gynaecology clinics specialist services including ambulatory out-patient procedural clinics. The post holder is also expected to contribute to maintaining high standards for our obstetric service and increasing our consultant presence on the delivery suite to 98 hrs from the current 87.5 hrs a week. In addition, we will be able to further develop and improve training and education offered to postgraduate trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as Medical Students.
The successful candidate will be offered a 10 Programmed Activity contract (new consultant contract) with the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The contract will be held by the Trust
It is expected that the appointee will bring appropriate skills to the unit to assist in the development of early pregnancy and acute gynaecology Ambulatory service and improve gynaecology services and subfertility clinics. The post holder is expected to run early pregnancy unit, and one stop gynaecological clinics, subfertility clinics, with expertise to offer multiple out-patient gynaecological procedures inviting best practice tariff procedures. The post also requires the appointee to cover gynaecological theatres and emergency gynaecological operating out of hours. The post holder is expected to participate in the ongoing progressive transformation of services and will be expected to improve the existing service. The job plan will also include advice and guidance/referral assessment service, which is expected to improve the referral quality of patients being referred to hospital for gynaecological services.

The successful candidate will join a busy Obstetric and Gynaecology Team in a London district general hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join a progressive department of 17 consultants, each with their own special interest. The successful candidate will:
Hold the CCT or Specialist Registration.
Be competent in acute and elective general gynaecology services
Be competent in Gynaecology scanning.
Be competent at day case and in-patient complexity of surgery
Sound intellectual skills, evident by a professional training base, supplemented by a managerial qualification or experience.
A willingness to accept responsibility, whilst providing high visibility leadership to a committed workforce.
Understanding and experience of working on service improvement projects impacting service delivery
An awareness of own strengths and weaknesses coupled with the ability to deploy them to best effect within a senior clinical and management team.
A willingness to guide and advise colleagues in developing their service, whilst acknowledging their individual responsibility for such matters within the group.
Good inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with good knowledge of and ability to use spoken and written English.
An understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities that it implies.
Knowledge and willingness to participate in clinical audit.
Be expected to take an active role in clinical governance
Be expected to play an active role in all activities within the department, clinical, teaching, audit, management and guideline work.
A clear understanding of NHS reforms and the opportunities and challenges they present to an NHS Trust
The Consultant on duty for the labour ward remains on site for 14 hours and does not provide cover for any other activity and is not available for private practice. There is a separate consultant to cover acute Gynaecology and Gynaecology inpatients from 8-17h during weekdays
