Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic team player with a special interest and recognised expertise in Interventional Cardiology, including percutaneous coronary intervention and permanent pacemaker implantation.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our cohesive team who believe in leading from the frontline with the aim of providing outstanding care to our community and investing in the well-being and development of our people.
This is a 6-month locum post to cover sickness absence. However, we will be advertising an equivalent substantive position later in the year to increase permanent Consultant numbers and allow us to meet the demands of an increasing in- and out-patient workload. We take pride in being a very functional and supportive department with a clear vision to provide the best cardiac care to our patients.
This is a 10 PA post for a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with subspecialist training in interventional cardiology and cardiac pacing at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The role comprises a mixture of inpatient, daycase and outpatient care. Broadly, the job plan can be dividied into timetabled, ‘on-call’ responsibilities and a standard working week otherwise, as outlined below.
The successful applicant will support the ongoing development of the established invasive coronary service, the developing Specialist Nurse Clinics and support teaching of our registrars.
The post holder will share clinical and managerial leadership within the cardiology service with the present consultants. An office base with administrative support will be provided.
The Department of Cardiology at the Royal Berkshire Hospital has an outstanding reputation and a proud record of achievement. We have been awarded the Best Training Hospital (non-surgical centre) award for the second year from the British Junior Cardiologist Association. We achieved University Department status with Reading University in 2020 and have successfully achieved re-accreditation in 2023. Our Cardiac Physiology department has been BSE accredited since 2015.
The cardiology medical team comprises 12 consultant cardiologists, 1 speciality doctor and 5 specialist registrars supported by the wider multi-disciplinary team of specialist nurses, cardiac physiologists and radiographers.
We are highly active in research including participating in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR) through the National Cardiac Audit Programme, where we have historically been the number one hospital in the country for three consecutive years for providing patients with primary angioplasty treatment within 120 minutes.
Please see enclosed job information pack for full details and detailed job plan. Interested applicants are welcome, and encouraged, to arrange a visit to the department
