We are looking to appoint a part time Locum Consultant Physician in Palliative Medicine to cover a one-year maternity leave gap in service. The consultant’s frontline duties will include inpatient work sharing clinical responsibilities for the 15 Inpatient Unit beds. This will include taking a lead at the weekly inpatient MDT meetings and providing a once weekly specialist palliative Care clinic for new or follow-up patients.
The role will provide a senior cross-cover with other elements of Ashgate’s consultant medical services to cover sickness and absence. At times this will require the individual to support the community services including the virtual ward, domiciliary community visits, providing advisory role and supervision for the wider Ashgate Hospice community specialist teams. To provide advisory support to multi-professional generalists and specialist clinicians.

WHO WE ARE:

Ashgate Hospice, based in Chesterfield, provides specialist palliative and end of life care including a wide range of community-based care and support services for people with a life-limiting illness and their families across North Derbyshire and the High Peak and Dales.
We are here for the people of North Derbyshire and beyond. We work together with energy, care and compassion so that people can have a good death in a place of their choosing and know that their loved ones are important to us too.
We provide palliative and end of life carefree of charge to people aged 18 and over. We care for people living with a life-limiting illness, including cancer, neurological diseases, and end-stage heart, kidney, and lung diseases. We aim to ensure that our patients are well informed, supported and pain free. While our purpose is to provide end of life care, our work doesn’t only begin at the very end of someone’s life. We can help improve quality of life soon after a terminal diagnosis. We also support people’s loved ones to ensure they get the practical, emotional and bereavement support they need.
We are proud of our Outstanding CQC rating and our RCN award-winning Inpatient Unit and have ambitious plans for high quality and sustainable patient care.
We’re committed to providing a happy, safe and supportive environment for all our people which is why nearly 4 out of 5 of our staff would recommend us as a place to work. We recognise the need to support our employees’ wellbeing including their work-life balance which is why we are open to, and encourage flexible working arrangements, including job-sharing.
Please visit our website and social media accounts or listen to our podcast “The Life and Death Podcast” to get a feel for what it is like to be part of the Ashgate team and gain an understanding of the people we support.
Ashgate Hospice is not an NHS hospice. Less than 30 per cent of our income comes from NHS budgets. It is thanks to the huge generosity of our supporters that we can provide our care and help create special and treasured moments for our patients and their loved ones.
Due to budget constraints, we have to focus our support on those patients with the greatest needs who require the most complex care.
