Description:

SUMMARY

Provides leadership and direction of logistics operations to maximize efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction, to achieve cost effective storage and transportation of products, and to consistently deliver on-time to the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides leadership to ensure employees demonstrate appropriate work skills, technical accuracy, efficiency and conformity to company policies.
  • Determines daily work priorities and adjusts work activities accordingly. Communicates schedules and productivity goals to team directly or through subordinate leaders.
  • Establishes, measures, and evaluates the costs and performance for all logistics activities. Analyzes work processes to determine ways to reduce cycle times and error rates.
  • Develops and maintains work instructions, procedures and process maps. Analyzes effectiveness and adjusts as needed to maximize efficiency.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with the team and other departments. Schedules meetings with team and attends meetings with other departments to ensure optimum flow of information.
  • Applies continuous improvement methodologies. Identifies constraints/bottlenecks that affect efficiency, accuracy and/or delivery to the customer. Considers alternatives and implements changes to support departmental and organizational metrics. Teaches team how to identify constraints and listens to and acts on suggestions by their team/others.
  • Ensures team members receive adequate training to perform job responsibilities. Oversees and directs job rotation and cross training to meet production demands and for employment development.
  • Understands and communicates company and department metrics and results including errors, nonconformities, quality, safety and cost containment.
  • Monitors work habits to ensure adherence to quality standards. Ensures team members are following approved work instructions and other documentation to achieve quality standards. Works with newly hired and/or transferred employees to make sure they thoroughly understand and correctly perform their job duties in accordance with the work instructions and quality standards.
  • Investigates and implements corrective actions for quality problems and corrective actions that stem from customer complaints.
  • Researches, creates and if accountable for managing the department budget. Oversees stock levels, manages material costs, leads vendor negotiations, and recommends new equipment purchases to increase efficiency of the department.
  • Reviews, changes, and continually adjusts warehouse space allocation and overall management of warehouses companywide.
  • Oversees pick-up and deliveries by company fleet, including the analysis of routes. Identifies ways to increase efficiency and cost effectiveness and implements changes with input from Sales, Customer Service and others.
  • Authorizes absences or overtime in order to meet work requirements. Completes necessary Time and Attendance coding and approval in timekeeping system.
  • Regularly monitors each team member’s adherence to safe work practices and Company’s safety policies as well as all quality policies and procedures.
  • Addresses employees’ concerns and questions promptly and with appropriate feedback to affected employee(s). Answers employees’ questions related to company policies or directs employees to appropriate resource. Ensures employees follow policies and coaches employees as needed.
  • Provides positive and constructive feedback to employees verbally and in writing. Documents feedback using the correct form and format per company policy/procedure. Completes and delivers performance reviews for employees.
  • Assists employees with difficult or unusual issues and situations, making decision about disposition of situation or the need to seek additional authorization for action. Maintains sensitivity to employee issues and knows when to refer employees to the correct resource person. Helps employees identify training needs. Ensures employees receive appropriate training necessary to meet and exceed job expectations. Coaches employees requiring additional support and training.
  • Conducts interviews and makes employment related decisions, including hiring, disciplinary and termination decisions.
  • Participates in leadership training and other company programs to develop leadership and job skills.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Utilizes production management tools such as pitch charts and other visual aides to monitor processes.
  • Performs other duties and/or leads various company/business initiatives/projects as directed by leadership.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Two-year degree in Logistics Management, Supply Chain or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in Logistics/Supply Chain field with preferred 3+ years in a Lead, Supervisor or Manager role.
  • Previous project management experience is highly desirable.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively, written and verbal, with all levels and functional areas of the business as well as vendors and customers.

  • Requires familiarity with all Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel and Word.

  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office equipment or computers.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
