Description:
LOWER SCHOOL FIFTH GRADE ASSOCIATE TEACHER - LITERACY
Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. The school provides a learning environment that cultivates global citizenship, a spirit of service, respect for differences and strong character in its students. Our commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture is reflected in a community in which differences are embraced, and students, parents/caregivers, faculty and staff have a sense of belonging.
The Lower School division enrolls 360 students from Pre-First through fifth grade, with three homerooms of approximately 20 students at each grade level.
The fifth grade is departmentalized, and the team of three homeroom teachers and three associate teachers is responsible for the instruction and care of the entire grade level. The Associate Teacher is passionate about children’s literature and is supervised by the Homeroom Teacher responsible for students’ daily instruction in literacy, including novel studies, reading, writing and language skills. Together, they provide a positive learning environment for each student. Teachers at this level are invested in students’ academic, emotional and character development. At Pace, we hire enthusiastic and energetic professionals who are dedicated to teaching and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children.
The Lower School is characterized by joy in learning and in discovery amongst students and teachers. Associate Teachers assist the Homeroom Teacher in creating a dynamic learning environment for every student. They help manage daily classroom tasks and have teaching and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Homeroom Teacher. They are eager to grow as educators and learn from the Homeroom Teacher, the leadership team and faculty.
The ideal candidate has been successful in a collaborative setting, exhibits good judgment and possesses excellent communication skills. Enthusiasm for teaching, especially young students, is a critical quality. They should possess a wealth of patience, humor, energy and creativity and work well within a team of teachers.
At Pace, we hire culturally competent and responsive candidates who believe in the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the life of a school and can effectively incorporate those principles in their teaching. Pace actively seeks candidates from historically underrepresented populations.
