Noblis is currently seeking a Machine Learning/Computer Vision Specialist for our Surface Transportation Program.

Noblis has a team of 40+ professionals supporting multiple research, development, and deployment-focused programs for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). These programs focus on using emerging technologies – including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), connected vehicles, automated vehicles, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other emerging mobility and smart city technologies – to transform how we travel – enhancing safety, improving mobility, and reducing transportation’s impact on the environment. We are positioning to grow our Surface Transportation Team with other terrific team members.
This is an opportunity for someone with a background and experience in ML/Computer Vision to support the U.S. DOT’s ITS programs. Noblis provides technical and programmatic support to the U.S. DOT ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) by planning and conducting research activities, coordinating technology deployment programs, and seeking disruptive innovation to transform the increasingly connected, automated, and electrified world of surface transportation systems.

As a member of this dynamic team, you will participate in the following activities:

  • Perform novel research in the area of ML/AI, computer vision and autonomous systems.
  • Performing algorithm development, data preparation, fusion, analysis, and visualization of diverse data sources.
  • Working with a team of colleagues providing strategic, technical, and programmatic support to ITS JPO senior leadership and program managers.
  • Analyzing the potential of emerging transportation systems technologies and their implications including the impact of connected, automated, and electric vehicles, AI, and data management systems on safety, mobility, and the environment.
  • Developing white papers and presentations on various topics, including the application of ML/Computer Vision, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, and vehicle automation to enhance the safety of all road users: g., drivers, vehicle passengers, and vulnerable road users (including but not limited to pedestrians, cyclists)
  • Developing briefing materials and talking points.
  • Facilitating and participating in client-led meetings with senior transportation leaders in Washington, DC and Reston, VA.
  • Conducting technical reviews of reports.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • BS required. Degree(s) in a field such as: Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Software development experience in a variety of languages such as Python, C, C++, C#, Java,
  • 0-3 years of professional experience required
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, computer vision, sensor fusion (Radars, LiDARs, visual cameras, thermal cameras, and/or others), and data analysis techniques
  • Ability to work in-person at Noblis and client offices in/around Washington, DC
  • Strong analytical ability required
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Strong professional, interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills
  • S. citizen or green card holder

An understanding of, and familiarity with, the following is a plus:

  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • Connected, automated, and electric vehicle technologies
  • Prior exposure to robotics work such as robot’s perception, SLAM, and/or autonomous navigation.
  • Experience with Linux, Robot Operating System (ROS), and Computer Aided Design (CAD) is recommended.
