Description:

We have an opportunity for you to join our Oncology Services here at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust as a Macmillan Colorectal Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist.
We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational and forward thinking nurse who is passionate about cancer nursing and has the ability to drive this Service forward. You should have extensive experience in Oncology as well as having excellent leadership, management and communication skills.
The post holder will play a key role in ensuring high standards of care for all patients and will be an integral key member in the co-ordination and organisation of colorectal cancer pathways, throughout treatment, symptom management, relapse, emergency admissions and living with and beyond cancer. You will also work in a consultancy capacity across our Trust and local health care services.
The post holder will act as an autonomous nurse specialist and will develop and deliver nurse led services within colorectal cancer. This will include telephone, face to face activity and inpatient reviews.
Enthusiasm, a desire to learn and flexibility are essential for this role, as are good interpersonal and organisation skills. This post will be based primarily at the University Hospitals site, however, there will be travel to the site of Rugby St Cross for outpatient clinics and to our new Maple Day Unit.
To establish and provide a specialist nursing service for the care and ongoing management of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancers.
You will participate in the provision of high-quality care from diagnosis, through treatment and during follow up.
You will make informed decisions within your own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards and targets are met.
The post holder will develop and implement opportunities for advancing nursing practice and for ensuring collaborative working relationships, incorporating expert clinical practice, leadership, consultation, and education.

The post holder will be a designated Colorectal Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist within the hospital and will provide expert specialist advice for patients, relative and carers in relation to a colorectal cancer diagnosis and to other health care professionals
To provide emotional support to patients, their families and staff during difficult situations e.g. breaking bad news or following an unexpected event
To be an active member of the appropriate site-specific MDT, utilising excellent communication skills, enabling maintenance of a high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations
Demonstrate a high level of clinical, technical and research skills through breadth and depth of knowledge
A knowledgeable clinical nurse specialist, supporting staff, the Colorectal Oncology Service and policy development within the specialty
To develop nurse led clinics and to undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills, including advanced health assessments and non-medical prescribing to ensure optimum patient management
To ensure that the patients holistic needs are taken into account in the decision-making process
A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice
Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes
Responsible for education and training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas and ensuring that evidence based care is embedded into practice
Utilise and ensure that others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available
Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need
Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
