Responsibilities:

Here at Hitachi Rail, we are looking for experienced, all-round Facilities & Maintenance Technicians to join the team on a 12-month fixed term basis. As the Facilities & Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for Site plant and infrastructure maintenance providing pro-active support in ensuring that the site infrastructure is maintained to an appropriate level corresponding to the requirements of the Company Quality, Safety and Environmental policies.
Please note, this is a shift-based role (days) in which weekend and bank holiday working is required.

The main role of the Facilities & Maintenance Technician will be to carry out planned works, include but are not limited to the below however there will be element to reactive activities:

  • Civils and buildings – e.g. all internal and external building/site fabric.
  • General maintenance of the site/office/buildings and their contents.
  • Fixed plant – all plant equipment permanently linked into the site infrastructure e.g. Pump Stations, Waterproof Test Facility.
  • ICT+S (Information, Communication Technology and Security Systems) – Over Head Projectors / CCTV / Access Control / Security Systems.
  • M&E (Mechanical and Electrical Systems) – e.g. Site Heating, Venting and Cooling Systems, Low Voltage / High Voltage supply, electrical systems. Internal / External / Emergency Lighting.

Other role responsibilities include:

  • Carry out reactive investigative works on defective plant and equipment.
  • To complete Defects (Defect/Task) in a timely manner and document findings.
  • To maintain Facilities & Maintenance (FM) owned internal and external real estate, to the defined 5S standards.
  • To assist in reviewing risk assessments in relation to site maintenance activities, as requested by Line Manager.
  • To monitor all areas of site activities and ensure compliance with internal / external standards and relevant documented procedures, giving immediate feedback to Management in the event of non-conformity.
  • To help investigate accidents and incidents, as directed by Line Manager.
  • To provide assistance in implementing necessary winter precautions in surrounding site areas, as directed by Line Manager.
  • To provide assistance in implementing and maintaining all departmental records, procedures and COSHH data.
  • To provide support / assistance to External Contractors, as directed by Line Manager.
  • To manage External Contractors. Review RAMS / Competencies and understand the scope of works. Issuing of relevant Permit to Works and undertake regular checks on the contractor, ensuring they are working safely and are complying to the issued permits scope of works. Timely close out of issued permits and checks on completed works.
  • To assist in the training / induction of new personnel.
  • To develop the FM Apprentice, ensuring they get all the necessary skills, experience and knowledge.
  • To be responsible for the control of stock management and replenishment, ensuring all stock is accounted for and reconciled, using the business systems available; CMMS/SAP. Actively look at opportunities to increase first fix, by putting forward a business case to hold required stock on site.
  • To be responsible for all FM activities across multiple sites in the local area; Main Site, Grindon Way, Unit 9 and any other units under the control of Warehouse/Hitachi.
